Av enkäten framgår även att de svarande inte alltid har en tydlig bild av vilka grupper och språk som utgör Sveriges nationella minoriteter och minoritetsspråk, och därför speglar svaren till viss del även attityder till invandring och invandrarspråk.

– Det är viktigt att ha i åtanke att alla inte kan nämna minoriteterna och språken i samma utsträckning. Svaren kan utgå från olika bilder och uppfattningar om vad nationella minoriteter och minoritetsspråk är.

Ökad kunskap leder inte automatiskt till en mer positiv inställning

Man tänker ofta att kunskap göder förståelse och bidrar till en positiv inställning. Men mätningen visar att stor kunskap om minoriteter inte längre självklart hänger samman med en positiv attityd till stödåtgärder.

Samtidigt är just ökad kunskap en av undersökningens viktigaste lärdomar inför framtiden, enligt Pesonen.

– Vi behöver berätta varför de här språken är viktiga och vilken betydelse de har, både för individer och för samhället.
