Sylvester Stallone rejects Trump's Hollywood ambassador offer

The echoes of US President Donald Trump's announcement that he will appoint "special ambassadors" to bring back the former glory of Hollywood to the country continue. Sylvester Stallone, the star of the world-famous 'Rocky' and 'Rambo' series, who was announced by Trump as an ambassador along with Mel Gibson and Jon Voight, broke his silence regarding the process.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, the 80-year-old master actor shared in detail the moment he learned about Trump's decision and what happened afterwards.

"I LEARNED THAT I WAS APPOINTED ON TELEVISION"

Stating that he was not aware of the appointment beforehand and that he received the news while watching it on television, Stallone expressed his surprise with the following words:

"I was watching TV one night and they said, 'Stallone, Mel Gibson and Jon Voight are going to be together...' And I was like, 'What? Excuse me, really?' I said. Because if they had asked from the beginning, I would have told them it wasn't possible."

"YOU CANNOT GO TO STUDIOS AND TELL THEM HOW TO DO THINGS"

Arguing that such an ambassadorial position would not be functional due to the structure of Hollywood, Stallone explained his reason for rejecting the offer with the following statements:

"Hollywood is like a feudal state with little kingdoms within itself. You can't go and tell six big studios how to do things. Like Mel Gibson and Jon Voight, we are people who do our own thing; this system does not work. I explained my reasons to President Trump, thanked him and said 'goodbye'. Hollywood will continue to develop, this is a corporate issue and the executives there do not want me to explain finance to them."

MEL GIBSON ACCEPTED THE POSITION

In his post in January 2025, Trump said; Jon Voight announced that he appointed Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone as special ambassadors to "restart the Golden Age of Hollywood" and bring back the lost industry power.

Actor Mel Gibson, who was also caught unprepared by the developments, unlike Stallone, announced that he accepted the task by saying, "I received the tweet at the same time as all of you and I was surprised too. However, my duty as a citizen is to offer the help I can."

POLITICAL ASPECTS AND RELATIONSHIP WITH TRUMP

Although he did not accept the ambassadorship position, Sylvester Stallone has a close relationship with Donald Trump. The famous actor described Trump as "a second George Washington" and made complimentary words at the gala held in Mar-A-Lago after his November 2024 election victory.

On the other hand, Stallone, who has maintained an independent political stance throughout his career, is known to have made financial donations to both the Republican Party and Democratic Party candidates, including former President Joe Biden, in the past years.
