Second Hearing Started in Tanju Özcan Case

The second hearing of the case with 19 defendants, including suspended Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, who was tried in Bolu on charges of "bribery", "extortion" and "qualified fraud", has started. It was learned that the detained defendant Özcan, for whom a prison sentence of up to 263 years is sought, will attend the hearing via SEGBİS.

According to the news in İHA; The first hearing of the case, in which the defendants appeared before the judge on charges of "extortion by force", "attempted extortion", "bribery", "qualified fraud" and "opposition to the Law on Foundations and Associations No. 5072", ended with an interim decision after 5 days.

In the interim decision announced after the first hearing, which lasted 5 days and the defendant's defenses and witness statements were heard, the court panel decided to release and continue detention.

ÖZCAN AND 3 DEFENDANTS' DETENTION CONTINUES

In this context, it was decided to release CHP Municipal Council Member Cihan Tutal and Bolu Municipality Financial Services Manager Naim Ayhan, who were on trial, by applying judicial control measures. In the same interim decision, the house arrest measure on Bolu Deputy Mayor Leyla Beykoz, one of the people on trial, was also lifted.

The committee ruled that the detention of Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, Deputy Mayor Süleyman Can, BOLSEV Board Member Ali Sarıyıldız, and Mustafa Altındal, Chairman of the Bolu Chamber of Marketers and Greengrocers and Bolu Köroğlu Credit, Tradesmen and Guarantee Chamber, who were the key figures in the case and who were suspended from their duties, continued to be detained.

NEW HEARING HAS STARTED

The new hearing of the postponed case started today at 09.00 at the 3rd High Criminal Court of Bolu Courthouse. It was learned that the detained defendant Tanju Özcan, for whom a prison sentence of up to 263 years is sought, will attend the hearing by connecting to the court via the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS) from the penal institution he is in.

The court panel is expected to hear new witnesses and re-evaluate the current situation of the defendants at today's hearing.
