Thuringian BSW faction dissolved after resignations: new faction “Thüringen.Gerecht” founded

The Thuringian BSW state parliamentary group is a thing of the past: it was dissolved after a series of party resignations by MPs, explained the previous parliamentary group leader in Erfurt. This step paved the way for a new parliamentary beginning for MPs without a BSW party register in the Thuringian Parliament. Shortly after the decision to dissolve, they founded a new parliamentary group - together with the CDU and SPD, they want to continue to support the minority government of CDU Prime Minister Mario Voigt.

Ex-BSW members around Deputy Prime Minister Katja Wolf had urgently founded a new party called Thüringen.Gerecht as a prerequisite for the new faction. The newly founded faction also bears this name. She is concerned with political stability, said Wolf. There are ten members of the parliamentary group, only nine of whom are also members of Thuringia.Gerecht, said the newly elected parliamentary group leader Sigrid Hupach. All decisions were made unanimously. Hupach was already at the head of the collapsed BSW faction.

Separation in a dispute with Wagenknecht

In the past, Wolf and the Thuringian regional association had had heated arguments with the BSW federal executive board and party founder Sahra Wagenknecht over Thuringia's participation in the government and how to deal with the AfD.

The BSW faction is now being liquidated. This involves, among other things, the professional future of 22 employees and the finances of the former group. The BSW parliamentary group, which, together with the CDU and SPD, has led the Thuringian government since the end of 2024, originally had 15 members. Two of them remain in the Wagenknecht party, three others left the BSW and the parliamentary group in the middle of last week and also remain members of the state parliament. Members of Parliament do not lose their status after leaving the party because of their free mandate.
