Tobias Johannessen wins the final stage of the Vuelta in Granada, Enric Mas crowned winner

The victory of a fighter to conclude. Tobias Johannessen (Uno-X) won the last stage of the Vuelta, in Granada, Sunday September 13. After 112 kilometers and a final circuit around the Andalusian city and the Alhambra coast, climbed four times, the Norwegian rider won the final three-way sprint to secure his first victory this season.

There was little at stake for the general classification, since the organization had decided to neutralize the last lap of the circuit and freeze the times 9.8 kilometers from the finish. The day initially looked like a long procession, usual on the last stages of Grand Tours. Then the platoon moved forward as a group.

We had to wait until the last 30 kilometers to see the first breaks, and Bastien Tronchon (Groupama-FDJ) shook the race lead, forming a first group without favorites to compete for victory. The attacks multiplied, and Tobias Johannessen ended up defeating Alessandro Romele (XDS-Astana) and Ramses Debruyne (Alpecin-Premier Tech) in a sprint. A reward for a rider often at the front, but until now never paid, he who had already signed 24 top 10s in 2026.

Enric Mas in red until the end

The final victory goes, unsurprisingly, to local Enric Mas (Movistar), winner of his national Grand Tour for his first title at this level. Runner-up to Tadej Pogacar at the start of the race, the Spaniard regained control of the general classification after the fall and abandonment of the big favorite on the 8th stage.

Solid, he confirmed his new status by winning the 9th stage the next day, before mastering his second part of the race to maintain his lead. He is accompanied on the podium by Primoz Roglic (Red Bull bora-hansgrohe), who will not become the first rider to win five times, and Felix Gall (Decathlon-CMA CGM). Enric Mas success to Alberto Contador, last Spanish winner of his National Tour in 2012.

The green jersey for the points classification goes to Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a bike), whose team won seven of the 21 stages (two for him, five for Matthew Brennan), while Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain-Victorious) wins the polka dot jersey for best climber. Oscar Onley (Netcompany-Ineos), sixth overall, finished best young rider. On the French side, Clément Berthet (Groupama-FDJ) finished best Tricolor overall (8th), while the French contingent leaves Spain with two bouquets (Bryan Coquard on the 8th stage, Bastien Tronchon on the 10th)
