Tragedy in Sri Lanka: Valentina Stragliotto, a 27-year-old from Vicenza, dies falling from a waterfall

She was 27 years old and originally from Bassano del Grappa, in the province of Vicenza. She was on holiday with a friend when on 24 September, at the Ravana waterfall, in the Ella area, she lost her balance and fell over 30 metres. Rescued in very serious conditions, she just died in Demodara hospital

Her name was Valentina Stragliotto and she was 27 years old. Originally from Bassano del Grappa, in the province of Vicenza, the young Italian was passionate about travel: she also worked as a coordinator for group trips and in her free time she dedicated herself to traveling the world alone or with friends. He lost his life in Sri Lanka, during one of those holidays that he loved to take so much. On September 24, she was with a friend in the South Asian country, where they had arrived a few days ago: during an excursion to the Ravana waterfall, in the Ella area, the 27-year-old lost her balance while standing on top of a boulder and fell over 30 meters under the helpless eyes of her friend. Valentina Stragliotto was immediately rescued and suffered very serious injuries due to which she died as soon as she reached the Demodara hospital.

The dynamics

What exactly happened at the time of the tragic accident is not yet clear. The young Italian had reached the waterfall together with her friend as a stop on their trip to Sri Lanka. Ravana is a natural attraction that develops on several levels and is located in the central part of the country: according to reconstructions, Valentina Stragliotto had climbed onto a boulder from which, however, she lost her balance and fell. Her injuries were too serious and the emergency services could do nothing to help her.

Valentina Stragliotto was 27 years old, she loved sport and travel. Born in Veneto, in Bassano del Grappa, she attended high school in her city. Sii had moved to live in England, where she undertook her university studies, and then moved to live in Brighton where she established herself in the field of digital marketing. She had also turned her passion for travel into a career by collaborating with agencies that organize group trips as a coordinator.
