English tourist missing in Lake Como at San Siro

A 38-year-old English tourist is missing in the waters of Lake Como in San Siro where he sank while he was swimming with the fifteen-year-old son of a family of friends with whom he had gone out on a boat.

Both he and the 15-year-old struggled. The boy's father dived from the motorboat to rescue them, but only managed to help his son.

The man and the boy were rescued by a passing boat. The mother and her other ten-year-old son, who remained on the drifting motorboat, were brought to the pier by units of the Aeronaval Department of the Guardia di Finanza.

The search for the 38-year-old, coordinated by the Coast Guard Operations Room, is underway. A fire brigade helicopter with divers from Milan and two naval units of the Dongo and Como fire brigades also intervened on site. The depths in that part of the lake range from 150 to over 200 metres.
