Trenitalia: new booking system and reduction of high-speed season tickets from November

For Trenitalia (FS group) commuters who use high-speed trains, a new mechanism for booking train journeys will come into force from November, which will be accompanied by a simultaneous reduction in season ticket costs. Assoutenti anticipated the news, after the presentation of the new Trenitalia plan to consumer associations.

The current model provides free train travel reservations for holders of high-speed season tickets, but from November passengers who want to reserve a seat will be asked to pay a fixed cost of 2 euros per reservation - explains Assoutenti - On the other hand, the cost of high-speed season tickets will drop by 80 euros, in order to offset the expense of commuters. For example, the standard monthly Av Rome-Naples season ticket, which currently costs 418 euros, will drop from next November to 338 euros, to which however 2 euros will be added for each trip booked - analyzes Assoutenti - In the hypothesis of 30 trips per month, each subscriber will save 20 euros per month compared to the previous rates, while the break-even point, i.e. the elimination of the difference between the lower cost of the season ticket and the new booking cost, is obtained in the case of 40 monthly trips. Below this threshold, therefore, the passenger will always obtain an economic advantage.
