Trinamool Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh alleges attempted murder in Kolkata

Trinamool Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh on Sunday alleged that he was targeted in an attempted murder while he was on his way to attend a programme in Kolkata, claiming that armed men smashed his car window and tried to drag him out. According to ANI, Ghosh alleged that the attackers were armed with revolvers and that his security personnel had to draw their weapons to protect him. He said he subsequently took refuge inside the Narkeldanga police station and was in the process of filing a formal complaint. "Today I was once again the target of an attempted murder. It is only by the grace of the Almighty that I am still alive," Ghosh said.

Ghosh alleged that the incident took place in broad daylight on Sunday when he was travelling to attend a programme in his capacity as an MLA. He claimed that the attackers smashed the car window and tried to pull him out while brandishing revolvers. The incident came a day after Ghosh's car was allegedly attacked in Uttarpara in Hooghly district on Saturday while he was travelling to Serampore to attend a rally addressed by TMC chief Mamata Banerjee. Protesters allegedly surrounded his vehicle, hurled eggs and stones and damaged its windshields.

Ghosh had alleged after Saturday's incident that his car was attacked with stones, eggs and iron rods and that there was no police presence at the spot. He returned to Kolkata following the incident and said he would lodge a complaint. On Sunday, Ghosh also accused the BJP of being involved in the latest alleged attack and questioned the police response. "BJP is certainly involved, and the police are inactive; we will have to see who else is implicated," he said, according to ANI.

"What do they want? Do they want my dead body? Until I am dead, they will never be able to force me to change my stance," Ghosh said. Visuals showed Ghosh's car with its window vandalised following Sunday's alleged incident. The MLA was reportedly on his way to Beleghata when the incident took place.
