A 14-year-old teenager fatally hit by a TER in Roeux

The barriers at the Roeux level crossing (Pas-de-Calais) “functioned correctly” indicated this Monday the Arras public prosecutor’s office. A teenager riding a scooter on Sunday evening was fatally injured there.

“Hearings are still underway to find out the precise circumstances of this tragedy”, specifies the prosecution. But “the first investigations suggest that the barriers functioned correctly”.

Hit by a TER

The victim “was traveling with a group of friends of the same age” when she was “fatally struck down by a TER train on a level crossing”. The prefecture previously indicated that the victim was 14 years old.

Three teenagers who were riding scooters managed to get through. The fourth, on a scooter, allegedly tried to cross while the level crossing barriers were lowering and was hit by the train, specifies a source within the gendarmerie.

An investigation into the causes of death was immediately opened and entrusted by the Arras public prosecutor's office to the Vis-en-Artois gendarmerie brigade. The France Victimes 62 association was called upon to take care of the victim's relatives as well as the three young people present at the time of the incident.
