A year after the murder of Raphaël Maciel, the investigation remains silent

There are few criminal investigations in which nothing leaks. The Raphaël Maciel affair is one of them. A year ago today, this 37-year-old father was shot in cold blood in the back while jogging on a trail in Bièvres (Essonne). Since then, there has been total silence. When contacted, the public prosecutor of Évry, Grégoire Dulin, refused to make any comments out of respect for the secrecy of the investigation. However, the magistrate has a power of communication provided for by article 11 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Why, in this case, such silence? “I believe that it is not so much due to the profile of the victim, the sensitivity of the case or the prosecutor as to the investigation itself which is very difficult to carry out given the few elements available to the investigators,” observes a local police source. “Of course, it’s a homicide like we sometimes treat, but there are very few clues here,” she adds.
