A man kills his wife, his two children and commits suicide in Gy

A man, a woman and two children were found dead, Wednesday September 2, in the evening, in the town of Gy, Besançon and franceinfo learned on Thursday ICI, from corroborating sources, confirming information from L'Est Républicain.

According to a source close to the case cited by franceinfo, the preferred lead at the moment is that of a man who killed his loved ones with a rifle before turning the weapon against himself. A lead confirmed by the Vesoul public prosecutor's office Thursday afternoon in a press release: "The preferred hypothesis at this stage of the investigation is that the father of the family, in the process of separating, would have killed the three other people before turning the weapon against himself."

The children are those of the man found dead

The gendarmes and firefighters were called Wednesday evening, around 8 p.m., following gunshots, in the town of Gy, northwest of Besançon, "after the father of the family reported having killed his children", specifies the Vesoul prosecutor's office. On site, they found four victims: a man, a woman and their two children, aged under 10.

According to the public prosecutor, the two children are boys aged 6 and 10. They were identified as the sons of the man found dead. The woman, aged 74, was identified as his wife's mother. The man was 42 years old. The prosecution indicates that the bodies of the adults were found in a bungalow located on the property, those of the children in a utility vehicle parked near the bungalow.

An open psychological support unit

“From the first elements collected by the investigation, it appears that the two children and the 42-year-old man were killed using a hunting rifle with a juxtaposed barrel of 12 millimeter caliber,” adds the prosecution. The autopsy of the four bodies was ordered. The investigation is opened for “intentional homicide” and entrusted to the Vesoul research brigade. According to ICI, the crime scene was cordoned off all night on land where there are mobile homes and caravans, on the heights of Gy. Nearly 50 gendarmes and around thirty firefighters were mobilized.

The rectorate confirmed to ICI Besançon that a psychological support unit was set up at the Catherine-Fraischot educational center, where the two killed children were educated. The system has also been extended to secondary schools in the municipality. On its Facebook page, the City of Gy decided to cancel the festive events planned for this weekend: the City of Gy trophy ceremony for sport, which was to take place Friday evening, as well as the fireworks planned for Saturday evening.
