A judge decrees prison for two people for housing migrants in a garage in Ceuta

A judge has ordered prison for two people for having housed migrants who entered Ceuta in late July in a garage, charging them up to 900 euros to occupy this space.

As reported by judicial sources, the judge has ordered imprisonment for a citizen of Ceuta for a crime against the rights of foreign citizens and another of threats, for which he has been sentenced to nine months for the first crime and six months for the second.

The second person involved – a Moroccan with legal residence in Spain – has been convicted of a crime against the rights of foreign citizens and it has been agreed to replace the prison sentence with expulsion from Spain for 5 years.

The arrest occurred after an investigation into a garage located on Avenida de los Reyes Católicos in Ceuta, whose owners took advantage of the vulnerable situation of migrants to offer them accommodation.

The parking spaces of one of the buildings in the area were used to shelter these migrants and the investigation has been carried out by the agents of the UCRIF of Ceuta together with the Central UCRIF within the framework of the so-called Senen operation.

The neighbors themselves warned of the continued presence of migrants in these garages, whose spaces were closed, with the agents determining that there was an organized activity of accommodation and favoring irregular immigration. The migrants paid up to 900 euros each to remain hidden in these spaces.
