US special envoy Witkoff and Kushner express optimism about peace talks in Ukraine

US special envoy Steve Witkoff drew a positive conclusion from the talks with the Ukrainian leadership. A very meaningful discussion was held, said Witkoff following the meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky and his team in the capital Kyiv. "We are very encouraged and look forward to continuing this for as long as it takes," he said. Zelenskyj also described the talks as “very rich.”

Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, said he hoped the talks would open "new paths" to advancing peace. On the sidelines of the talks, he said that Trump wanted lasting peace for Ukraine, as the Ukrainian news agency UNIAN reported. All future agreements should eliminate the possibility of another war and give Ukraine the opportunity to use the ingenuity demonstrated during the war years for the further development of the country, Kushner said.
