Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer, who is detained, stated in the message he shared on his social media account that he has been serving his country as a member of parliament and mayor for years. Seçer included the following statements in his message:

"I was arrested with a very heavy decision, based on the claims of a secret witness and a bureaucrat that needed proof. There may be allegations against a mayor, he can be investigated, a lawsuit can be filed, but it is unfair against the will of the nation to arrest him instead of being tried pending trial. In line with the promises we made to you, we turned Mersin into a construction site. Our services continue at a satisfactory level. Our city becomes more beautiful every day. Do not worry, the work of our municipality will continue in the same way. To my colleagues who serve Mersin with me I trust, they will not let me down. Until today, I have served with the responsibility of not harming the property of my family. My head is high, my forehead is open, thank God. I wholeheartedly believe that we will meet you as soon as possible and continue to serve our city."
