Vietnam Post enters the mobile telecommunications market with a virtual network model

Vietnam Post Corporation - Vietnam Post announced its participation in the mobile telecommunications market with a virtual network model.

Vietnam Post does not build a mobile network but exploits partner networks to provide services. The company chose Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) as its infrastructure partner. Vietnam Post is in charge of developing brands, products, distribution systems and customer care. The network has not yet announced the number.

Previously, according to the license issued by the Department of Telecommunications - Ministry of Science and Technology in December 2025, Vietnam Post was allowed to establish a public terrestrial mobile telecommunications network that does not use radio frequency bands, with a nationwide deployment scope. Services provided include voice, messaging, transmission for machine-to-machine connection and Internet access.

In the first step of entering the market, Vietnam Post launched a travel SIM for international visitors under the Pottel brand. The product currently only provides data services, targeting visitors to Vietnam who need to maintain an Internet connection during their stay.

Vietnam Post and VNPT have a history of development from the common foundation of the postal industry. For many years, postal and telecommunications were organized under the same system.

By 2013, the restructuring process brought the two fields into independent operating units. VNPT focuses on telecommunications infrastructure, information technology and digital services. Vietnam Post develops the postal, delivery, logistics and postal finance sectors.

Vietnam currently has four mobile networks that own infrastructure and frequencies, including Viettel, VinaPhone, MobiFone and Vietnamobile. The market also has five virtual mobile networks providing services, including iTel with prefix 087, Wintel with 055, Local with 089, VNSKY with 077 and FPT with 0775.
