WADA approved restrictions on the participation of national anti-doping organizations in testing at the Olympic and Paralympic Games

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has approved changes to limit the participation of National Anti-Doping Organizations (NADOs) in testing at the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The WADA Executive Committee approved the changes at a meeting in Belgrade on September 10. They will come into force on January 1, 2027.

Under the new rules, host NADOs must not be involved in planning the distribution of tests and selecting athletes for testing at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. In addition, the host organization and sample collection staff who hold the nationality of the host country will be prohibited from testing athletes from that country.

It is noted that the new provisions will not apply to competitions of international federations outside the Olympic Games. Such federations must independently determine the need to apply similar restrictions.
