The deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense on talks with the US regarding a permanent military base in Poland

We need to prepare a special act (...) on faster base building, defining the competences of specific ministries, because building a base is actually building a small town - said Deputy Minister Sobkowiak-Czarnecka on TVN24.

She added that such a base would probably be intended for 5,000 people. US soldiers and their families.

When asked about the location of the base, she indicated that there were two proposals at the moment and talks with the Americans were ongoing. The American side saw the locations we proposed and shared their assessment of these locations with us in Washington, and we will continue to work on this basis, she added. She indicated that the base could be located in western Poland because this region is "considered a safer place by the Americans."

Moreover, as the deputy minister said, the location will be determined by criteria such as proximity to airports and proximity to a large metropolis.

What is important about the base is a outlined schedule of activities. Today, everything indicates that the Americans will not make a decision until the end of the so-called strategic review, i.e. what Pete Hegseth (US Secretary of War - ed.) ordered. Today, a report is being prepared on the American presence in Europe. This report is scheduled to reach Secretary Hegseth's desk on November 1, and then to President Trump's desk on December 1, and we can probably expect the final decision only after that date, said the deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense.

We will see whether this will happen, (...) we submitted a proposal that if it is planned to build such a factory in Ukraine, we propose to build it in Poland, so that it would be in the so-called safe territory - said Sobkowiak-Czarnecka, when asked about this matter.
