Customs raid in Schleswig-Holstein: Seven illegal workers discovered in nail salons and barbershops

During a raid by the tax inspectorate on illegal employment, customs officers in Schleswig-Holstein inspected seven nail salons and twelve barbershops.

During checks in Kiel, Lübeck, Eutin and elsewhere, the emergency services found seven people on Saturday, as customs spokeswoman Gabriele Oder reported.

Four of them worked in a nail salon in Trittau, the other three were found in nail salons and barbershops in Ratzeburg, Geesthacht and Stockelsdorf.

Criminal proceedings were initiated against the seven employees on suspicion of illegal stay.

Customs are also investigating the respective employers on suspicion of aiding and abetting illegal stays and thus in connection with illegal employment.

“Some employees could not or did not want to identify themselves, others presented real identification documents, but they belonged to other people,” said Oder.

They were taken to the police to confirm their identities.

There was no social security registration for an employee in a barbershop.

Criminal proceedings were initiated against the employer on suspicion of withholding and embezzling wages.

In addition, eight violations of the immediate reporting requirement were identified.

In three other cases, the required working time records were missing.

Corresponding administrative offense proceedings were initiated.

The controls were part of a nationwide focus audit in the hairdressing and cosmetics industry.

Around 2,200 employees of the undeclared work financial control department were deployed, including 29 customs officers in Schleswig-Holstein.
