Sick leave with code C - most among people aged 40-49 and among men

Sick leave from the so-called code "C" - meaning incapacity for work caused by alcohol abuse - covered a total of almost 46,000 days of absence.

Most often, doctors issued certificates for a period of up to five days - this type of leave accounted for as many as 37 percent of all cases.

Who benefits most from sick leave?

Who used such exemptions most often? ZUS statistics leave no doubt - people aged 40-49 dominate.

People under 19 years of age and seniors over 65 years of age are the least likely to be dismissed due to alcohol abuse.

Among all patients with a certificate with code "C", as many as 77 percent were men - almost the same number as a year earlier.

If we take into account the division into voivodeships, the majority of such L4s were issued in the first half of the 20th century. 2026 in the Masovian Voivodeship (14.3% of all in the country), Greater Poland Voivodeship (11.5%) and Silesian Voivodeship – 517 (11.1%).

At the end of the list are the following voivodeships: Lubuskie - (2.9% of all in the country), Opole - 135 (2.9%), Podlaskie - 150 (3.2%).

Alcohol and the labor market

Experts emphasize that although the number of sick leaves due to alcohol abuse is decreasing, the problem still affects thousands of employees and their employers.

Absenteeism generates not only financial costs, but also affects efficiency and the atmosphere in the workplace.

No right to sickness benefit

ZUS reminds that sick leave with code "C" is not the basis for payment of sickness benefit for the first five days of incapacity for work.
