Yeosu World Island Expo International Exchange Island attracts attention as a world island cultural exhibition hall

(Yeosu = Yonhap News) Reporter Son Sang-won = The 'International Exchange Island' of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo attracts attention as an exhibition hall that introduces the charm and value of overseas islands whose names are not even familiar.

According to the Yeosu World Island Expo Organizing Committee on the 15th, the International Exchange Island is one of eight exhibition halls built at the main beach in Jinmo District, Dolsan-eup, and is home to promotional centers for local governments, international organizations, and domestic local governments from over 30 countries.

Exhibitions were organized by theme, including cultural heritage, tourism innovation, marine ecology conservation, and climate change response, to share the island's value and conservation measures.

Upon entering, you can see the historic Lamu Island Public Relations Center on the northern coast of Kenya.

Lamu Island is home to centuries-old architecture, maritime traditions, and a culture that combines African, Arab, Persian, and Chinese influences.

Group tourists, including children, try on folk costumes and tour indigenous exhibits to indirectly experience the vibrant island culture and satisfy their curiosity.

In the international exchange islands, you can see islands from each continent, starting from Africa such as Mozambique (Igbo) and Senegal (Fond Dieunu), as well as Europe, Asia, and Oceania.

The composition of the exhibition, including participating countries and institutions, will be divided into the first half from the 5th of last month to the 5th of next month, and the second half from the 7th of next month to November 4th.

The second half of the exhibition introduces islands such as Cuba (Ibana), Malaysia (Shiba), the United States (Hawaii), and Tanzania (Zanzibar).

Participating countries will also promote their country's unique culture, such as dance and music, under the name 'ISLAND FRIENDS DAY' at the main stage and special performance hall.

An official from the organizing committee said, "The International Exchange Island serves as an encyclopedia where you can examine the traditional culture of islands around the world. We hope that you will feel the romance of autumn and the charm of an island that is not easy to visit in person at the exhibition hall with the sea in the background."
