Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province installs 1,291 artificial reefs in Gunsan and Buan waters

Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 28th that it will spend 2.3 billion won to install 1,291 artificial reefs in 104 hectares, including the waters of Hoenggyeong Island, Bian Island, and Wido Island in Gunsan.

Artificial reefs will be installed in designated locations in each sea area by October 16 using barges and cranes.

By sea area, there are ▲ 400 at 32 ha in latitude, 491 at 40 ha in Biando, and 400 at 32 ha in latitude.

Artificial reefs are spawning and habitat facilities for marine life that are artificially created in coastal waters, and the province explained that the catch in sea areas where they are installed is on average 3.7 times higher than in seas where they are not installed.

Chae Jung-seok, head of the Provincial Fisheries Policy Department, said, “Even after the installation of artificial reefs, we will create a rich fishing ground that fishermen can enjoy through continuous effect research and systematic follow-up management.”
