Selected for storm and flood damage maintenance contest… Disaster prevention project worth 233.6 billion won in 14 districts

(Samcheok = Yonhap News) Reporter Yoo Hyeong-jae = Gangwon-do Samcheok City announced on the 28th that it was finally selected for the '2027 Storm and Flood Damage Living Area Comprehensive Maintenance Project' and '2027 Natural Disaster Risk Improvement District Maintenance Project' contest hosted by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security and secured 19.9 billion won in national funding.

Accordingly, the city will begin large-scale disaster prevention infrastructure maintenance in Geundeok and Simbang districts by investing a total project cost of 39.8 billion won, including national and provincial funds, from next year to 2031.

A total project cost of KRW 30.1 billion will be invested in the comprehensive maintenance project for flood-damaged living areas in Geundeok-myeon to fundamentally resolve recurring flood damage in the Gyoga-ri and Hamaengbang-ri areas of Geundeok-myeon.

In the past, downtown commercial buildings and farmland have been repeatedly flooded during heavy rains such as typhoons 'Rusa', 'Mitak', 'Mysak-Hisun', and 'Kanun'.

The city will repair 2,484m of Chodangcheon Stream and 1,350m of storm water pipes and re-build 5 bridges.

We plan to install a new drainage pumping station to reduce flooding damage that occurs during heavy rains.

A total project cost of KRW 9.7 billion will be invested in the Simbang District Natural Disaster Risk Improvement District maintenance project to refurbish 2,685m of the Simbang Stream in Hamaengbang-ri, Geundeok-myeon and rebuild 6 old bridges.

Through this, we plan to ensure safety by ensuring that water flows smoothly during heavy rain.

Including the projects selected this time, the disaster prevention project promoted by Samcheok City covers a total of 14 districts and is worth 233.6 billion won.

By project, the amount is 64.7 billion won for two comprehensive maintenance of living areas damaged by storms and floods, 120.5 billion won for five natural disaster risk improvement districts, 32.3 billion won for two stormwater runoff reduction facilities, and 16.1 billion won for five steep slope collapse risk areas.
