Kaohsiung City's new primary school Peili volunteer team spent more than 15,000 hours in four years and was recognized by the Education Fragrance Record

Campus volunteers are a group of "teachers without a podium." Kaohsiung City's new elementary school established the "Pengli Volunteer Group" four years ago. 20 volunteer parents arrive at the school early every morning to accompany nearly a hundred children in reading and studying, and also accompany them through the low points of their lives. They have accumulated more than 15,000 hours in four years. This year, they were recognized by the Kaohsiung City Education Fragrance Record.

The new elementary school "Peili Volunteer Group" was established in 2022 by Su Shouyi, the then Director-General of the Parents Association and the current President of the Parents Association, and the Counseling Office. The members come from all walks of life, including doctors, teachers, general office workers, bank clerks, self-employed workers, housewives, etc. They start from morning time every day to accompany children who need support to read and study.

Over the past four years, the volunteer group has continued to devote more than 15,000 hours of service to accompany nearly a hundred students in their studies at Mingguang. More than half of them have made significant progress in reading comprehension and have gradually regained their confidence from learning setbacks. Volunteers not only accompany children to read, but also accompany them to overcome learning hurdles step by step through patient guidance and positive encouragement, making reading a force that unlocks self-confidence and growth.

The training classroom has also become a safe haven for children to grow up safely. Volunteer parents will even make their own teaching aids and adjust teaching methods to help students. Xiao Hui, who was the first to receive companionship, often cried secretly due to family changes. Volunteers helped her get out of the gloom and received a progress award; Xiao Lan, who came from the Dona tribe, died suddenly of her father. Volunteers provided care and accompanied her in her studies. Within one year, her grades and performance improved significantly, and she was awarded the honor of model student.

"There are no your children or my children here, only our children." This sentence is the common belief of the Power Volunteer Group. Su Shouyi, leader of the Peili Volunteer Group, said that education is not just about cultivating top students, but more importantly, it is about supporting every child who needs a little more time and companionship. The 20 core volunteer parents not only invested time, but also continued to improve their professional abilities and received relevant training in special education, psychological consultation, and technological assessment, so that their love could be further transformed into professional support.
