Illegal receipt of national pension and basic pension for about a year from mother's name

The Daegu District Prosecutor's Office's Gimcheon Branch Criminal Division 1 (Chief Prosecutor Lim Ji-soo) announced on the 10th that it had arrested and indicted Mr. A on these charges (death by abandonment of the family, etc.).

According to the prosecution, Mr. A is accused of neglecting his mother in her 80s without proper treatment despite her health deteriorating at her residence in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province around April last year, and then burying her in a nearby hill three days later after her death.

He is also accused of illegally receiving 9 million won, including national pension and basic pension, in his mother's name for about a year until last July.

Mr. A had been hiding this fact and recently told his son, who reported this to the police.

The police who received the report caught Mr. A last month and detained him.

Through a supplementary investigation, including analysis of medical records and treatment, analysis of account details, consultation with a medical examiner, investigation of pension payment institution personnel, and review of legal principles for similar cases, the prosecution received from Mr. A the motive for the crime, saying, "At the time of my mother's death, I did not provide relief due to financial burdens such as medical expenses, and buried the body in the hill for the purpose of illegally receiving pension."

A prosecution official said, “We will take strict action against immoral crimes against dependents.”
