The investigation established that the suspect was interested in the ideas of Eric Hobsbawm, and also had an interest in the character of the Netflix series “You” and Nazi symbols.

ANKARA, September 23 - RIA Novosti. A teenager suspected of an armed attack on schoolchildren in Manisa, Turkey, prepared for the attack in advance, spoke about his intention and engaged in shooting training, Sabah newspaper wrote on Wednesday.

The shooting was reported at the Indzhi Yuzmez Vocational Lyceum in Turgutlu at about 7.59 (Moscow time) on Tuesday. According to the latest data, 11 people were injured as a result of the incident, three of them are in serious condition. There are no Russians among the victims, the Russian Embassy in Ankara reported.

According to Sabah, Khalil O. purchased ammunition with money from his grandmother before the attack and practiced shooting with his cousins.

“About a month before the attack, he told his mother’s cousin that he was going to carry out an attack with a gun, but he did not take the words seriously,” the publication says.

The gun used in the attack was registered to the suspect's grandmother. According to investigators, the teenager was able to easily take the weapon from his grandfather's house.

The newspaper clarifies that after the attack the number of detainees in the case reached nine.

During a search of the teenager's room, investigators found notes in which he allegedly developed a structure called the Socialist Communist Party, and also wrote a manifesto and recorded his views on social problems. According to Sabah, Nazi symbols were also found in the room. The investigation established that the teenager was interested in the ideas and works of the British Marxist historian Eric Hobsbawm. In addition, among his records, evidence of interest in Joe Goldberg, a character in the Netflix series “You,” was found.

Before the attack, the teenager reset his mobile phone to factory settings. Investigators are now studying the device.
