In the case of Wu Shunhe, the head of Shanlun District in Lukang Town, Changhua, who beat his wife to death, the Taichung High Court rejected the appeal and upheld the 13-year sentence.

Wu Shunhe, head of Shanlun Village in Lukang Town, Changhua, went to the Tuigong Temple with his wife Lin Nv the year before last to prepare winter solstice rice dumplings for the elderly. They got angry when they saw the pots were dry and the division of labor, so they beat him to death. Afterwards, he was also accused of lying that his wife had thrown herself, hiding the main unit of the monitor, and intimidating the volunteers to silence. The Changhua District Court’s Civilian Judge sentenced the case to 13 years in prison. After the case was appealed, the Taichung High Court announced today (24th) that it rejected the appeal and upheld the original verdict.

This case occurred on December 20, 2024. Wu Nan and his wife went to Lukang Tuigong Temple to help volunteers prepare winter solstice glutinous rice dumplings for the elderly. Wu Nan was dissatisfied with his wife's handling of kitchen affairs and saw the boiler burning dry. His anger accumulated, so he beat his wife on the head with his bare hands and grabbed her hair and hit her hard. The rusty steel trolley made Ms. Lin feel uncomfortable and unsteady when walking, and she finally lay unconscious on a recliner next to the kitchen. He still pushed his wife and chair to the stairs forcefully, and delayed calling 119 for about 20 minutes.

Lin struggled for 42 days after being sent to the hospital. She eventually died of pneumonia and respiratory failure due to head trauma and intracranial hemorrhage. After the incident, Wu Nan promoted the image of his "loving wife" to the outside world. He even said that his wife fell while walking and fainted from a head tumor.
