The Koryoin Humanities and Social Research Institute (Director Go Ga-young), affiliated with Gwangju Koryoin Village, announced on the 4th that it will hold the first domestic academic conference on the theme of 'Return, Settlement, and Community - Formation and Practice of Gwangju Koryoin Village' at 4pm on the 17th at Koryoin Village.

In the first part, which begins with a congratulatory speech by Kwangshin University President Park Eun-sik, Ko Ga-young, HK research professor at Seoul National University's Asia Research Institute, presents 'The Ukrainian War and the Return of Refugee Koryo People'.

Choi A-young, a senior researcher at Seoul National University's Asia Research Institute, examines the identity and network of GBS Koryo Broadcasting under the theme of 'Sounds that Cross Boundaries.' Slapchenko Vadim, senior researcher at the Asia Research Institute at Seoul National University, comments.

In Part 2, Yongho Park, a researcher at the Institute for Devotional Theology at Kwangshin University, presents ‘The Identity of the Koryoin Gwangju Clinic Viewed through Theological Narrative’, and Professor Minsoo Kang at Kwangshin University and Jungi Jeong, a senior researcher at the Institute for Koryoin Humanities and Social Sciences, provide commentary.

Shin Jo-ya, CEO of Koryo Village, said, “Through this academic conference, we hope to develop into a research institute that systematically researches past experiences and achievements and connects academics and the field.”

Established in 2018, the Koryo Humanities and Social Research Institute is a research institute specializing in Koryo people that studies the history and culture of the Koryo diaspora, the anti-Japanese independence movement, forced migration, return and settlement, etc.
