Conflict deepened after Jeonju University's Glocal University 30 was eliminated... Emergency committee demands resignation of chairman and president

Conflict within Jeonju University, which was eliminated from the Ministry of Education's 'Glocal University 30' project last year, is deepening.

The Emergency Response Committee for the Normalization of Jeonju University held a resolution meeting at 11 am on the 3rd at the university president's office to demand the resignation of Chairman Cha Jong-soon and President Ryu Doo-hyun.

Emergency committee officials delivered a motion of no confidence in Chairman Cha and President Ryu, which had been passed at an emergency general meeting the previous day, and read a declaration demanding their resignation.

As President Ryu was away, the Chief of Staff received the no-confidence motion delivered by the Emergency Committee.

The emergency committee reported that after three days of voting starting from the 31st of last month, 83.3% of professors on campus participated in the vote, of which 97.7% opposed Chairman Cha's reappointment.

It was also explained that 94.3% expressed no confidence in President Ryu.

Ahn Jung-hoon, president of Jeonju University's faculty council, said, "The emergency committee followed the wishes of all members of the university and worked to normalize the school, but the chairman and president completely ignored it and continued to show inaction."

He continued, “The Emergency Committee will enter into a struggle to establish capable leadership that all members can trust and follow,” and demanded, “Chairman Cha announced his intention to give up his second term, and President Ryu steps down, taking responsibility for the total administrative failure.”

Jeonju University has been experiencing conflict within the school since it was ultimately eliminated from the Glocal University 30 project last year.

The emergency committee, comprised of the Jeonju University faculty council, professor union, and staff union, filed a complaint to the police, claiming that Chairman Cha had privatized the school and received entertainment from professors in the past.

Lee Ho-jun, a professor of counseling psychology who serves as the chairman of the emergency committee, has been on a hunger strike since the 31st of last month, calling for the resignation of the chairman and president.
