Police chase fleeing suspect... “We are checking the motive for the crime.”

(Pyeongtaek = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Sol = Several foreigners got into a fight in a park in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, in the middle of the night, and the police arrested the two people involved.

Police are confirming the identities of these and other suspects and tracking their whereabouts.

According to the Pyeongtaek Police Station on the 4th, at around 11:30 pm the previous day, a 112 report was received that “several foreigners are fighting” on the street in Poseung-eup, Pyeongtaek-si.

In a video provided to Yonhap News by an autonomous crime prevention team member who witnessed the scene at the time, several foreigners were filmed collectively beating a crouching opponent by swinging a bat several times.

Another video showed them kicking at a man and then scattering and running away as the autonomous crime prevention team members ran towards them.

The police dispatched to the scene arrested Mr. A, a Russian national, and Mr. B, a Kyrgyz national, both men in their 20s, as criminals on charges of violating the law on punishment of violent acts.

It is reported that they are currently being treated at the hospital for injuries such as fractures.

The police estimate that about 10 people were involved in a gang fight at the time, and are investigating two other foreigners at the scene as references and tracking down other suspects.

A police official said, "At the scene, Mr. A and others tried to run away without cooperating with the investigation, and wooden parts were found inside the vehicle they owned, so they were arrested. However, there is a possibility that they were harmed unilaterally, so we secured their personal information and released them to receive treatment."

He added, "As the suspects do not speak Korean properly, we will confirm the specific motive and circumstances of the crime through an interpreter."
