There will be 70,075 traffic accidents in Taichung City in 2025, with 90,651 people injured, ranking first among the six cities. Chen Yijie, a Democratic Progressive Party candidate for Taichung City Councilor’s Second District, pointed out today (26th) that Taichung City’s traffic has been deteriorating in the past eight years since Lu Xiuyan came to power. She called on the Taichung City Government to establish an inter-bureau task force as soon as possible to comprehensively review traffic problems and improve people’s driving environment and life safety.

Chen Yijie said that traffic safety is related to every citizen’s daily commuting, schooling and life. According to statistics from the Ministry of Interior, there were 70,075 traffic accidents in Taichung City in 2025, with 90,651 people injured, ranking first among the six cities. From 2023 to 2025, the number of traffic accidents has remained at more than 70,000, with the number of injuries reaching more than 90,000, which has been the highest among the six cities for three consecutive years. It can be seen that in the 8 years since Lu Xiuyan came to power, Taichung City's traffic has been deteriorating, and it has disregarded the safety of citizens, allowing people to risk their lives every day when going out.

Chen Yijie pointed out that in recent years, Taichung City has widely deployed speed cameras and technological law enforcement, resulting in a sharp increase in traffic fines, but it has not been able to significantly reduce the number of traffic accidents and injuries, and the results are ineffective. What is urgently needed now is to set up an inter-bureau task force through relevant bureaus such as the Transportation Bureau, Construction Bureau, Education Bureau, and Police Department to conduct a comprehensive review of the overall traffic environment from road planning and design, school education, driving habits, pedestrian safety, parking needs, etc., to improve Taichung City's traffic as soon as possible and ensure that people can go home safely every day.
