"There are too many people!" The past weekend was the public opening day of the 2026 China International Fair for Trade in Services (hereinafter referred to as "the Fair"). Early on Saturday morning, September 12, the "Cultural and Tourism Services Special Exhibition Area" located in Hall 7 of Shougang Park, Shijingshan, Beijing, was crowded with people. Sun Peng and his colleagues carefully lifted a "bridal sedan" to find a display space for it that was both convenient for viewing and to avoid collisions. This is the work "A Happy Event Sedan Chair" by Zhang Tonglu, a master of cloisonné arts and crafts. Cloisonné is creatively integrated with wooden elements, and is decorated with red agate and turquoise. It is very exquisite.
"This is the first time for our book club and bookstore to participate in the Service Trade Fair. This sedan chair was lent to us by the inheritor of 'Enamel Zhang', and it just conveys the goodwill of 'happy events are coming'." Sun Peng introduced.
Sun Peng is the director of Beijing West 105 Book Club and Bookstore, and the chairman of the cultural branch of the Shijingshan District Working Committee of the Democratic National Construction Association. In June 2025, the Beijing West 105 Book Club was initiated by the Cultural Branch under the guidance of the Shijingshan District Working Committee of the Democratic National Construction Association. As a public welfare activity, the book club has been "zero budget, zero remuneration" since its inception. From the books we read together to the reading venues, it all relies on the joint support of volunteers from all parties.
The book club holds activities every month, and its reputation gradually "breaks out" of the circle, with more and more participants. The book club later went to the International Sculpture Park AIGC Urban Memory Exhibition Center, Zhongguancun Industrial Internet Industrial Park and other places, which not only "expanded" the venue, but also expanded the "circle of friends" for reading. Since the book club was launched more than a year ago, 25 events have been held.
In June this year, the book club was "launched" into a physical bookstore with an intangible cultural heritage theme. In addition to holding cultural salons, this new bookstore is also committed to the display of intangible cultural heritage skills, linking the Yanjing Eight Jue Museum and representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage to carry out activities to inherit and carry forward the excellent traditional Chinese culture.
Sun Peng said that the book club and bookstore’s appearance at the Service Trade Fair, a national exhibition platform that “links the world”, is also to showcase Beijing’s Western culture and China’s intangible cultural heritage to the world. Therefore, the booths are full of books and cultural creations related to intangible cultural heritage: under the festive "bridal sedan", there is a red-covered "Illustrated Book of Patterns of Happy Events in China" that collects 150 groups of "happy" patterns; in the three-dimensional book "Hundred Scenes of Jiangnan: Questioning Customs", the folk scenes that "jump out on the paper" attract children's attention... According to reports, these cultural creations come from different representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage. The bookstore is developing its own brand of cultural and creative products, which are expected to be launched within this year.
