The People Power Party urges the withdrawal of the nomination of Minister of Justice Kim Seung-won... ‘Homeland in 2026’ regulations

On the 13th, the People Power Party launched an onslaught against Justice Minister candidate Kim Seung-won, saying that he was the "homeland of 2026" and that forcing the appointment would lead to the downfall of the Lee Jae-myung government.

In a commentary on the day, Chief Spokesperson Choi Bo-yoon went on the offensive, saying that various suspicions against candidate Kim are in line with the corruption issue of former Justice Minister Cho Kuk's children in the entrance exam during the Moon Jae-in administration.

Chief Spokesperson Choi said, "If the Cho Kuk incident was a betrayal of the fairness and justice that the government itself advocated, then Candidate Kim is more than that. As a former co-chair of the President's Indictment Cancellation Group, I am concerned about the collapse of the entire national judicial system by appointing the final piece of the puzzle to defend the President's judicial risks as the Minister of Justice."

He pointed out, "The history of our country has already given us the answer. If we continue down this path to the end, we have no choice. Just as the Moon Jae-in administration did, the people will eventually abandon the Lee Jae-myung administration," and added, "And the Democratic Party will become the opposition party again."

Senior floor spokesperson Choi Eun-seok also made a comment, responding to Kim Min-seok, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who said of Candidate Kim on the 11th, "The more I watch, the better he is," by saying, "The Minister of Justice is not in the position to cover up suspicions with a single official check from the representative of the ruling party."

Chief National Spokesperson Choi criticized, citing candidate Kim's suspicion of lobbying for the approval of clinical trials for new drugs and suspicions of preferential treatment due to hiring the son of a judge, an acquaintance, as a legislative assistant in the lawmaker's office, and criticized, "The Democratic Party is even preventing key officials involved in the suspicion from being appointed as witnesses for hearings."

At the same time, he said, "If it is a truly good person, there is no reason to hide it or block witnesses," and urged, "The Democratic Party should stop 'protecting Kim Seung-won' and guarantee a proper hearing."

In a Facebook post, 5-term lawmaker Na Kyung-won fiercely criticized Lee Jae-myung's administration, saying, "The second cabinet of the Lee Jae-myung administration is a criminal community appointment made to hire contractors for criminal laundering and indictment cancellation," adding, "In order to lift the judicial shackles of the president's individual and cover up the government's corruption, they are trying to push private mercenaries and contractors covered in illegal and immoral filth."

Rep. Na said, "The Democratic Party rejected all 44 witnesses for candidate Kim's hearing requested by the opposition party and created a ghost hearing with 'zero witnesses'. The intention is to degenerate the hearing into a 'vending machine for impunity' that fabricates the alibis of criminal suspects," and demanded, "Immediately withdraw the nomination of a criminal community member for the second term cabinet who mocks the people."
