Errors in application submission for college admissions for the 2027 school year, relief confirmed for 388 cases

In relation to the 'failure situation' that occurred in the application reception for the 2027 college admissions rolling admissions, 388 cases were confirmed as eligible for relief. If the 188 cases that have not yet been reviewed are included, the number of recipients of relief may increase further.

The Ministry of Education announced that it had completed its review of 1,400 of the 1,588 relief applications received by 6 p.m. on the 16th, and decided that 388 of them would be eligible for relief.

At the same time, it was said that the remaining 188 applications for relief were being reviewed.

Those eligible for relief can submit applications to the university until 10 p.m. on this day, and as of 6 p.m., 250 people have submitted applications.

Initially, the Ministry of Education estimated that there were up to 1,200 test takers who were unable to complete their application due to this incident, but the actual number of relief recipients is much lower.

The application for relief was held for three days starting at 9 a.m. on the 14th.

The Ministry of Education and the Korean Council for University Education announced that they will select those eligible for relief based on login records and application submission history at the time of the system failure.

At around 5:50 p.m. on the 11th, an error appeared in Uway Apply's application system, and some test takers were unable to properly submit applications and complete payments.

Accordingly, the Korea University Education Association postponed the application deadline from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., but confusion arose as some test-takers were unable to confirm the extension notice.

Although the Ministry of Education and the Korean Teachers and Education Association have implemented relief measures, suffering continues, including opposition from students and parents.

Some students and parents are demanding the withdrawal of relief, saying, “There was an information asymmetry between existing applicants and those who applied after the extension, and equity was damaged in the admission process.”

It is known that they are communicating online, holding a rally demanding the withdrawal of relief, and are also considering related lawsuits.

Minister of Education Choi Kyo-jin said at the National Assembly Education Committee plenary meeting that day, "I don't think there will be any disadvantage to the test taker who applied first."
