On September 27, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Abkhazia reported the detention of 25-year-old resident of the city of Gudauta Abukhba Edgar Garevich on suspicion of murder of a 26-year-old tourist from the Orenburg region. Meanwhile, back in 2024, there was a scandal in the country surrounding the release of a rapist, whose name and surname completely match the data of the detainee.

“We received with extreme bewilderment the information that on February 2, the Abkhaz citizen E.G. Abukhba, who in 2019 committed a grave crime against a Russian tourist, was released after his sentence was commuted by the decision of the Supreme Court of this country... Obviously, this creates risks for the safety of a large number of foreign guests who annually arrive at Abkhaz resorts, about which we are forced to warn our compatriots,” the message published February 16, 2024 in the Telegram channel of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Local media wrote that Edgar Abukhba received nine years in prison in 2021 for rape, robbery and causing grievous bodily harm to another girl. Three years later he was released.
