Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Grigory Karasin spoke about the need for UN reform

The potential of the United Nations (UN) has not been exhausted, but reform is necessary, said Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs. The senator announced this in a conversation with Lenta.ru.

“It is known that a new secretary general will be elected at the end of this year. There are a lot of emotions around. According to established tradition, it is the turn of Latin America and the Caribbean to present their candidate. There are different candidates. It's too early to talk about this. Because this should be decided by competent people,” Karasin said.

At the same time, the senator said that the member states of the organization are interested in it becoming a global structure that promotes the interests of developing justice in economic, humanitarian and other activities.

“This has not yet been achieved. I think the organization itself is quite useful. Its potential is far from exhausted. We just need to reform it and take a fresh look at how it should work,” the politician concluded.

Earlier, Karasin revealed details about the reaction to the delegation from Russia. According to him, interest in the delegation to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) was increasing day by day.
