(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Park Soo-yoon = The New Reform Party decided to establish an emergency response committee to resolve the party following the resignation of former leader Lee Jun-seok.

The New Reform Party announced on the 10th that it passed a vote asking its top party members (members who pay party dues) whether they agreed to revise the party constitution.

In the vote conducted through the National Election Commission's mobile voting system (K Voting) from the previous day to 6 p.m. on this day, 15,618 out of 27,762 total electoral votes participated (voter turnout 56.26%), of which 14,213 (91%) were in favor.

There were 10,405 people (9%) opposed.

Earlier, acting party leader and floor leader Chun Ha-ram met with reporters at the National Assembly that day and said, "If party members agree to the establishment of the emergency committee, the emergency response committee chairman should be appointed immediately," and added, "I decided to meet with the people I had in mind for the chairman later this week and over the weekend."

He continued, “We have already discussed it to some extent, but we will make a formal proposal and set a specific term. If all goes well, we will announce the nomination next Monday.”

Regarding the term of office of the chairman of the emergency party, he explained, "It is right to give the party enough time to reform," and added, "If you wish, I will guarantee it until August next year, the remaining term of former leader Lee Jun-seok."

Within the party, former lawmaker Cho Eung-cheon, who ran as a candidate for Gyeonggi Province governor in the June 3 local elections, is reportedly being mentioned as a strong candidate for emergency committee chair.

The New Reform Party has been run under an acting system by floor leader Chun since the party's founder, former leader Lee, resigned on the 26th of last month.
