Iran confirms that it has communicated with the American side through the Qatari mediator in New York

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said that communication with the American side took place through the Qatari mediator, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings on Tuesday.

Regarding the Iranian-American negotiations in New York, the official Iranian “IRNA” news agency reported, quoting Baghaei, that “this communication came with the aim of informing the American side of the Iranian conditions for the negotiations, including ending the war on all fronts, stopping the American aggressive measures and economic war, lifting the naval blockade, and releasing frozen Iranian assets,” in addition to other conditions.

Baghaei explained that another issue that aroused widespread interest in the media is related to the issue of the “meeting” between the Iranian delegation and the American side, stressing that “the matter is very clear, and that the communication that took place was through the Qatari mediator, as the Iranian delegation conveyed its views and conditions clearly and frankly to the American side through the mediators.”

Baghaei added: "This is not a new matter. During the last week, the positions and visions of the Islamic Republic of Iran were emphasized with regard to the discussions related to the Strait of Hormuz, the security of the region, and Iran’s conditions for diplomacy. Today, the opportunity of the presence of our country’s delegation in New York was used to convey these points to the American side very clearly."

Steve Witkoff, US President Donald Trump's special envoy for peace missions, announced that the American and Iranian delegations held talks through mediators on Tuesday.

Witkoff previously wrote in a post on the “X” platform, Twitter: “We held lengthy talks with the Iranian delegation through mediators who moved between the two sides throughout the day, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly,” and added: “We successfully completed a round of discussions that we hope will be constructive and promising, and the mediators will continue their work.”

Earlier, while speaking to the press, Trump said that members of his administration met with the Iranian delegation for about 3 hours in what he described as a “very good meeting.”
