وأوضح أن روما يمكنها الاستفادة من علاقاتها الجيدة مع الجانب الإثيوبي للمساعدة في حل الأزمة المستمرة منذ سنوات.

جاء ذلك بعد انعقاد الدورة الأولى للجنة المشتركة المصرية الإيطالية، حيث بحث الجانبان عددا من الملفات والقضايا ذات الاهتمام المشترك، في مقدمتها المياه والطاقة والهجرة والتعاون الاقتصادي والتجاري.

من جانبه، أكد وزير الخارجية المصري أن قضية المياه تمثل القضية الأولى والوجودية لمصر، لما لها من ارتباط مباشر بحياة أكثر من 110 ملايين مواطن مصري، مشددا على أهمية الالتزام الكامل بقواعد القانون الدولي، وفي مقدمتها مبدأ عدم الإضرار بالآخر، ورفض أي إجراءات أحادية في ملف مياه النيل.
