Mainland Affairs Council warns: Applying for these four types of documents will result in loss of Taiwanese identity

As long as the Taiwanese people obtain the four types of documents: Taiwan Resident Permit, Chinese Resident Identity Card, Chinese Passport, and Chinese Border Travel Passport, it will be equivalent to giving up their legal status in Taiwan.

When traveling or communicating with China, be sure to pay attention to the status red line! The Mainland Affairs Council warned that in accordance with the "Cross-Strait People's Relations Ordinance", Taiwanese people are not allowed to establish household registration in China or obtain Chinese passports. Violators will lose their Taiwanese identity, and their Taiwan household registration will be revoked, and their ID cards and passports will be cancelled. Among them, once you apply for "four types of certificates", you may be immediately derailed and be deregistered.

Taiwan Resident Permit

The "Taiwan Resident Settlement Certificate" (referred to as the Settlement Certificate) is a prerequisite document issued by China to promote the settlement policy of Taiwanese. It is mainly used for permanent residence registration. Obtaining the certificate is deemed to be "agreeing to establish a household registration in China" and you will lose your status in Taiwan.

Chinese resident identity card

Obtaining a "Chinese Resident Identity Card" means that you have completed your permanent residence registration in China and obtained your identity. Once detected, your Taiwan household registration will be revoked immediately by the household registration authority, and your ID card and passport will be completely cancelled.

Chinese passport

According to the "Cross-Strait People's Relations Regulations", Taiwanese people are not allowed to obtain "Chinese passports". As long as it is verified that the person holds an official Chinese passport, the local administrative agency will directly cancel the Taiwanese household registration and related civil rights.

China border travel passport

The "China Border Travel Passport" is often packaged by unscrupulous travel agencies as "convenient for customs clearance" and "no queue for visa application", making tourists mistakenly believe that it is only a temporary passage document. The Mainland Affairs Council emphasized that even if the passport is only valid for 3 months and is limited to border travel, its legal effect is still an official passport issued by the Chinese public security agency as a "citizen". Once applied for, the household registration in Taiwan will also be revoked.

The Taiwan Compatriot Certificate is not illegal, but personal safety must still be taken care of

The "Taiwan Compatriot Permit" (the Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents), which is most commonly used by the public, is only a travel document, not a proof of citizenship. Simply holding it does not violate cross-strait regulations, so there is no need to panic.

However, the Mainland Affairs Council also reminded that even if the Taiwan Compatriot Permit is legal, the Chinese Communist Party has often regarded the holders of the permit as its citizens in recent years. In addition, China has expanded national security review and tightened immigration and border control regulations. Even if it is not illegal to travel to China, you may encounter "border control" or restrictions on departure. In addition to not applying for the above four types of documents, people traveling to China should also carefully assess their personal safety and potential risks.
