A 44-year-old man surnamed Cai allegedly held a 23-year-old male intern hostage and scratched his hand in the Cathay Pacific employee lounge at Taoyuan International Airport Terminal 1 yesterday (12th) afternoon. Cai was transferred to the Taoyuan District Prosecutor’s Office this afternoon. After hearing, the prosecutor applied to the court for a detention ban, and the Taoyuan District Court ruled in the evening.

Tsai Man and his wife and children live separately in Taiwan and Hong Kong. He originally planned to visit his wife and children in Hong Kong yesterday. He thought that his wife had purchased a ticket for him. When he arrived at the airport, he found that there was no ticket for him. So he lost control and entered the Cathay Pacific lounge. He held a fruit knife and scratched the male intern's hand. The aviation police were called to the scene. Tsai Man was not paying attention and subdued him with pepper spray and an electric shock device. In the process, three aviation police officers were also slightly injured.

After interrogation, the Criminal Police Brigade of the Aviation Police Bureau transferred Mr. Cai to the Taoyuan District Prosecutor's Office on suspicion of obstructing freedom and causing injury. After interrogation, the prosecutor confirmed that Mr. Cai was involved in assault under Article 277 of the Criminal Code and Article 302-1, Paragraph 1, Paragraph 2 of the same law, and committing a deprivation operation for carrying a weapon. He is suspected of crimes such as freedom, coercion under Article 304 of the same Act, and intimidation under Article 305 of the same Act. The crime is suspected to be serious, and he has no fixed address. There is a risk of fleeing and committing repeated crimes. He believes that there is a reason and necessity for detention and applies to the Taoyuan District Court for prohibition of detention. Taoyuan District Court has made the decision this evening.
