The farewell ceremony for composer and jazz saxophonist Alexei Kozlov will take place on Tuesday in the farewell hall of the Troekurovsky cemetery, where he will be buried afterwards.

Alexey Kozlov died at the age of 90 due to a short illness.

On the day of farewell to Alexey Kozlov, all concerts at his club on Maroseyka in Moscow were cancelled.

MOSCOW, September 29 - RIA Novosti. The farewell ceremony for the composer, jazz saxophonist, People's Artist of the Russian Federation Alexei Kozlov will take place on Tuesday in the farewell hall of the Troekurovsky cemetery, where he will be buried.

Last Friday, the musician’s family told RIA Novosti that Kozlov died at the age of 90. As those close to him clarified to the agency, the cause of death was a short illness.

His friends and colleagues expressed their condolences over the death of the jazzman. Singer Larisa Dolina, remembering Kozlov, in a conversation with RIA Novosti, called him an outstanding musician, noting that all their joint works were highly talented and original. Musician Igor Butman, in a conversation with the agency, said that with Kozlov’s departure, jazz became orphaned, since all his creative energy and talent were aimed at finding new forms, and the composer himself remained at the forefront of Russian jazz until his last days.

On the day of farewell to Alexei Kozlov, all concerts at his club on Maroseyka in Moscow were cancelled, the press service of the establishment previously told RIA Novosti.

Kozlov was born on October 13, 1935 in Moscow. He graduated from the Moscow Architectural Institute, and later from the Moscow Regional Music School. He began to learn to play the saxophone on his own in the late 1950s.

In 1973, Kozlov founded the Arsenal ensemble, which became one of the first professional jazz-rock groups in the USSR. The musician stood at the origins of Russian jazz-rock, participated in Russian and foreign jazz festivals.
