Wuhan Tanhualin: A cultural business card that revitalizes a 600-year-old street

Literary shops, retro buildings, and a dazzling array of cultural and creative stalls... Walking in the Tanhualin Historical and Cultural District in Wuchang District, Wuhan City, every step is full of vivid fireworks.

Tanhualin is known as the "living modern history book of Wuhan". It is one of the areas with the most historical relics, the deepest connotation and the most outstanding style in Wuhan. Here, there are 52 century-old historical buildings that combine Chinese and Western elements. Each brick and tile embodies the unique charm of the blend of Chinese and Western cultures.

Since the renovation and upgrading was launched in 2005, Tan Hualin has adhered to the conservation concept of "repairing the old as before", carefully sorting out the thousand-year-old historical relics and street textures, and connecting the three axes of "former residences of historical celebrities", "mountain cultural buildings" and "humanities and art experiences", so that the old streets can be revitalized during protection.

Today, Tan Hualin has formed a cultural tourism business ecosystem that “takes culture as the core and coexists with multiple business formats.” New business formats such as art exhibitions, cultural and creative retail, intangible cultural heritage handicrafts, and coffee and tea drinks have taken root here. 74 merchants have settled in the literary town, with an overall occupancy rate of about 90%.

During the 2026 Spring Festival holiday, Tanhualin received a total of 500,000 tourists, with a peak single-day passenger flow of 80,000.
