The fire occurred in the early morning of October 8 in a residential building on Gamarnika Street in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. During the fire extinguishing, the bodies of a mother and her four children were discovered. A neighbor managed to save two more children, six and ten years old.
“A resident of Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Igor Volshtein, saved two girls from a fire: Angelina and Maria. Without hesitation, he rushed to help his neighbors. Thanks to his courageous act, the children are alive. Now they are receiving all the necessary medical care. And I will definitely reward Igor Evgenievich personally,” Demeshin wrote in his Telegram channel.
There, the governor published a video in which Wolshtein described how he acted during the fire. According to him, the first to wake up was his wife, who heard a cry for help and, going out onto the balcony, saw smoke from the neighbors. After that, she immediately woke up her husband.
“I put on my pants and ran to my neighbor on the fourth floor, it’s good that she was no longer sleeping... I pulled two girls over her balcony onto her balcony. Then the man and I started trying to open the door with a crowbar, but the door was strong, we didn’t succeed. And then the firefighters arrived,” said Wolshtein.
