From September 22 to 27, the 48th World Skills Competition was held in Shanghai. This event, known as the "World Skills Olympics", welcomed 1,385 players from 68 countries and regions to compete on the same stage this year, with the largest scale of participation ever.
Inside the competition venue, welding arc light and digital creativity complement each other; outside the competition venue, the Skills Carnival was packed with people.
The fiery World Championships are a vivid epitome of the vigorous development of my country's technical talent team construction - from the "gold medal leader" on the medal list to the "echelon reserve" covering the entire industry, a large-scale technical talent team is injecting solid talent confidence into Made in China and Created in China.
-The final venue, all events participating to witness the hard core strength
This competition has a total of 64 events, covering six major fields including transportation and logistics, manufacturing and engineering technology, and information and communication technology. The number of events is the highest ever. Among them, 7 new competition items, including rail vehicle technology, unmanned aerial vehicle system, smart security technology, software testing, digital interactive media design, dental restoration process technology, and retail, made their debut, respectively meeting the new needs of low-altitude economy, digital economy, intelligent manufacturing, and upgrading of people's livelihood services. "Wherever the industry develops and where new professions are created, the World Skills Competition will set its events there." said Zhang Rui, deputy director of the China (Tianjin) Research Center of the World Skills Competition and the Engineering Training Center of Tianjin Vocational and Technical Normal University.
This time, the Chinese delegation sent 71 players to participate in all 64 events, and the scale of participation was also the largest in history. "The wonderful performance on the field comes from the accumulation day after day." Chen Yujie, a researcher at the China Academy of Labor and Social Security Sciences and deputy director of the Occupational and Skills Research Office, said that the total number of skilled workers in my country has reached 220 million, including 72 million highly skilled talents. The participation in all projects shows that our country has a complete range of industrial categories and a reserve of skilled talents in each category, "highlighting the completeness of the skilled talent training system."

In the AI era, machines can replace a lot of repetitive labor. Why do young people still work hard to practice skills?
Zhang Rui answered with "one hard and one soft": The "hard" one is welding. Our country has won silver medals in this project since the 41st World Championships, and its level has always been at the forefront. Artificial welding in the aerospace field is still irreplaceable; the "soft" one is hairdressing, which carries self-confidence and psychological healing in addition to image improvement, and the scoring standards specifically include customer care services. In her view, AI is not a "replacement" for skills, but an "amplifier". Young people must not only lay down basic skills, but also use AI to improve their learning speed and level so that their ability growth can keep up with the times.
The World Championship standards also bring inspiration to the reform of vocational education. Chen Yujie summarized it into three shifts: What to teach, shifting from disciplinary thinking to industrial thinking, to meet the skill needs of the most cutting-edge positions; how to teach, abandoning pure classroom indoctrination, and turning to the integration of work and learning, so that students can learn immersively in a real production environment; how to evaluate, shifting from a single skill to a composite ability evaluation covering process processes, safety regulations, professionalism, and on-the-spot response.

The tournament will come to an end, and the "dividends" of the World Championship have just begun to be released. Chen Yujie summarized this driving effect into three dimensions: talent dividend, players must go through school-level, municipal-level, provincial and national selection competitions, and a world competition promotes the training of a large number of skilled workers; standard dividend, the world competition standards are absorbed and localized, which not only promotes talent training reform, but also feeds back to the production line of enterprises, benchmarks advanced standards to optimize technology and improve product quality; cultural dividend, through atmosphere creation and the dissemination of the growth stories of skilled youth, skills are seen by more people and recognized by society.
"Skills change the world, skills illuminate the future." Zhang Rui used the theme of this competition to send a message to skilled youth. Chen Yujie hopes that more young people will see the vast world and stage of the skills track, study hard, dare to venture and fight hard, and "brighten the golden sign of Made in China and Created in China."
From the competition field to the classroom, and from the classroom to the production line, a virtuous cycle of "event traction, talent support, and industrial upgrading" is taking shape. When the world competition standards continue to be transformed into teaching standards and production standards, "Chinese Skills" will not only lead the medal list, but also become a solid foundation to support the construction of a manufacturing power.
