South Korea demanded an explanation and apology from Ukraine for disclosing information about the transfer of North Korean prisoners of war

South Korea has demanded an official explanation and apology from Ukraine following the public disclosure of information about the transfer of two North Korean prisoners of war to Seoul. Reuters reports this.

“The Presidential Administration deeply regrets Ukraine's unilateral disclosure of information and subsequent false claim that there was no non-disclosure agreement,” said Senior Presidential Communications Secretary Song Ki-heon.

According to a representative of the South Korean administration, Kyiv has repeatedly discussed with Seoul the transfer of prisoners of war through various channels and itself asked not to disclose the information.

At the same time, despite South Korea’s agreement to keep the information secret, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky later revealed this fact in a speech at the UN General Assembly. Seoul considered this a serious damage to trust between the countries and said that it was considering the possibility of taking additional measures against Kyiv in connection with the incident.

Earlier, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung criticized Ukraine for disclosing information about the transfer of military personnel from the DPRK to Seoul. According to him, the parties agreed to keep the fact of the transfer of prisoners secret.
