Wang Yi met with Mexican Foreign Minister Velasco. The two sides exchanged views on China-Mexico relations and international issues.

China News Service, Beijing, September 7. On September 7, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, held talks with Mexican Foreign Minister Velasco in Beijing.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's cordial greetings to Mexican President Sheinbaum, saying that China and Mexico are both major developing countries with similar concepts and common interests. Both are committed to accelerating national development and revitalization, and both hope to build a more fair and reasonable global governance system. China and Mexico have become mutually beneficial and win-win partners and a positive force in safeguarding international peace, fairness and justice. China has always viewed and promoted China-Mexico relations from the strategic perspective of unity and cooperation among countries in the Global South. We appreciate Mexico's long-term and firm adherence to the one-China principle, support Mexico in adhering to independence, safeguarding sovereignty and security, and opposing external interference. China-Mexico relations are not aimed at third parties, nor should they be affected by third parties.

Wang Yi said that heads of state diplomacy plays a vital leading role in China-Mexico relations. China is willing to work with Mexico to strengthen high-level exchanges, consolidate political mutual trust, make good use of bilateral communication mechanisms at all levels, deepen exchanges and cooperation in all fields, and promote the sustained and in-depth development of the China-Mexico comprehensive strategic partnership.

Wang Yi said that the theme of this year's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) "Year of China" is "Building an Asia-Pacific Community and Promoting Common Prosperity." China is willing to take the opportunity of hosting various APEC activities to work with all parties to revitalize the Asia-Pacific community and activate the process of the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area. China and Mexico hold similar positions on many international and regional issues. China is willing to work with Mexico to strengthen strategic coordination on the international and multilateral stages, safeguard the legitimate interests of both countries, and jointly make efforts for the unity and self-strength of countries in the Global South.

Velasco conveyed Mexican President Sheinbaum's sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping, and once again expressed condolences to China for the mudslide disaster in Gyirong County, Shigatse, Tibet. Velasco said that Mexico and China have a long history of friendship, and the two sides respect each other and share the same ideas on principles such as respecting sovereignty and national equality. Mexico appreciates the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence proposed by China and firmly abides by the one-China principle and UN General Assembly Resolution 2758. Mexico is willing to work with China to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen high-level exchanges, promote bilateral mechanisms, expand and deepen practical cooperation, and jointly promote Mexico-China cooperation to achieve new results. Mexico supports China in hosting the APEC Leaders' Informal Meeting and playing a leading role, and is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China to jointly safeguard the international multilateral system.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional hotspot issues of common concern. (over)
