Taiwan men's 4x100m relay wins silver and sets national record

Taiwan's men's 4x100m relay team won the silver medal at the Asian Games in 38.32 seconds, breaking the national record and becoming Taiwan's first relay medal since 2010.

Lai Baixiang, Chen Wenpu, Huang Zuojunlin and Yang Junhan completed the game, only behind the Chinese team (38.17 seconds), and the South Korean team won the bronze medal (38.43 seconds). Taiwan's previous national record was 38.41 seconds, set in June.

This silver medal is Taiwan's third track and field medal at this Asian Games. Previously, Fu Zhaoxuan won the gold in the men's high jump and Lin Zhongwei won the bronze in the men's 400-meter hurdles.

Lai Baixiang kept Taiwan competitive in the first leg and handed the baton to Chen Wenpu, who was responsible for completing the straight and corners. Huang Zuojunlin narrowed the gap at the corner, and Yang Junhan passed the South Korean team as the last shot to ensure second place.

Yang Junhan is 29 years old this year. This is his fourth Asian Games and his third consecutive Asian Games medal. He said the team was feeling good after Sunday's heats and believed gold was within reach.

"I have even thought about what I would say if we win the gold medal," Yang Junhan said, adding that although the silver medal was his first Asian Games relay medal, it still held special significance.

Huang Zuojunlin burst into tears after the game and thanked his mother who passed away in March. He said he felt unwell after the preliminaries and prayed to his mother to help him complete the finals and help the team win medals.

Chen Wenpu also played injured. He said he tore his left Achilles tendon in July, which prevented him from training with spikes until two weeks ago, and he still feels pain with every step he takes.
