The Baltic countries have asked the European Commission for €500 million for protection against drones

Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have asked the European Commission to allocate 500 million euros to strengthen defense against drones, Estonian broadcaster ERR reports.

“The Baltic countries have asked the European Commission to allocate 500 million euros of additional support for the development of counter-drone capabilities. The appeal to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, was signed by the Ministers of Defense of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania - Martin Herem, Raivis Melnis and Robertas Kaunas,” the message says.

According to Minister Kaunas quoted in the publication, the three countries are exploring the possibility of jointly purchasing relevant systems, giving preference to the European defense industry.

It is noted that the request came against the backdrop of a growing threat posed by drones, with the Baltic countries expecting to receive funds this year, awaiting a response from the European Commission within several weeks.
