Northern Fleet ships conducted a landing exercise on an island in the Kara Sea

A detachment of ships of the Northern Fleet conducted a tactical exercise to land an amphibious assault force on the unequipped coast of an Arctic island on the Sedov Archipelago in the Kara Sea.

According to the terms of the exercise, a detachment of ships needed to eliminate an armed group of a mock enemy on the island.

The landing assault group was delivered to the coast from the patrol ship “Ivan Papanin” by a Ka-29 deck helicopter, after which the North Sea soldiers successfully completed all assigned tasks.

“A detachment of ships of the Northern Fleet, performing long-distance missions in the Arctic Ocean, conducted an episode of a tactical exercise to land an amphibious assault force on the unequipped coast of an Arctic island,” the report says.

According to the terms of the exercise, which was held on the Sedov Archipelago in the Kara Sea, a detachment of Northern Fleet ships had to eliminate an armed group of a mock enemy on the island.

“From the patrol ship Ivan Papanin, a deck helicopter Ka-29 delivered to the coast an air assault group from a separate guards brigade of the Northern Fleet Marines, as well as a post for adjusting naval artillery fire,” the department said.

The fire preparation of the landing area was also indicated by the crew of the patrol ship's artillery complex. Reconnaissance of the landing area was carried out using robotic systems. After the combat formation of the amphibious assault, a march on equipment was carried out to the designated area. The mine clearance group carried out mine reconnaissance tasks and destroyed detected mines and landmines along the route.
